:PEver heard of Mulu National Park ?? It's in Sarawak (east Msia), near to Brunei and to Sabah too.
So I jump into the Mulu National Park trip which is organised by my Rawang friend's friend. I guess I'm a bit tired of having to orgnanise my own trip, thus it shld be more relax to be a follower this round
.
Well, I did imagine myself displaying a nice pose, where the Pinnacles set as my background, and I would hv write a grand story how I manage to climb to the viewpoint in my blog. Anyhow, it is an imagination
..... coz I didn't make it to the viewpoint
.
On the 1st day arriving the Mulu National Park HQ, we checked in to our very much comfortable room, it is a long house style, where you hv rooms on it, and each room hv 4 separate queen size bed ...... and the washroom is very clean as well
.
After a refreshment, we're being guide to walk a passage for an hour, and arrive at the entrance of the Deer Cave, known as the largest cave in the world ..... and the largest bat dump compunds too I guess
. The cave is magnificient, too bad that my camera and my photographing skills is not up to the level to hv capture some great pictures.
We actually visited some other caves, Lang Cave, Wind Cave & Clear Water Cave. 1 of the friend actually think the ClearWater cave hv the feel of the scene in the movie "A River Runs Through It". I don't hv the same feeling .... as the river is not quite moving outside the ClearWater Cave but nevertheless the water is "clear"
. The ClearWater and Wind Cave is actually link, where the ClearWater Cave being the lower passage of the whole limestone mountain.
Comes the hard part, on the 2nd day, after the visit to the ClearWater Cave, we continue our journey and "sail" on our boat to head for the Kuala Litut. On and off, we hv to get down from the boat and PUSH
..... there's smth new for us
. I remember for the 1st time, I'm still not reacted quickly, thus end up I'm one of the two that still sit in the boat while the rest is already pushing the boat. It wasn't an easy job though ..... tired, tired, tired. From Kuala Litut, we hv to walk for 8.8km to reach the base camp, Camp 5 before climbing the Mt Api to see the Pinnacles.
We manage to "crawl" to the Camp 5 before the sunset, after walking for 2.5 hours with our backpack full of canned food ...... who's idea to bring along canned food ?? Once we reached, we thought we hv knock on Heaven's door
....... A river runs through it, a mountain stood tall in front of us ........ and finally a dip in the cool river water to wash away our dirt and keep the bees away from us. The small creatures are after our salt
.
Did I told you that we saw the Milky Way that night
?? I can't remember the last time I saw such a starry sky ..... not to mention spotted a shooting star as well
. The night is cold at the Camp 5, 10 of us sleep in the dormitory, where each of us provided with a mat n ..... nothing else
. I forget to rent a blanket, when the light goes off at 10pm .... I was like uhh ohh, can I survive the cold ?? I did survive but in a not so good condition for the climb
.
The route to the Mt Api is challenging, a 2.4km journey and the mountain rose to 1200m within that distance. Half of the team make it to the "mini Pinnacles" at the 900m distance and called it quit .... I'm one of them. Do I regret abt it, a bit, just a bit .... but I will be back
.
Living for 2 days in Camp 5 is fun ..... I didn't know you can be a rock star if you know how to cook rice in a pot using the stove.
, I act like Jamie at Home when I try to give a few tips on how to cook the rice
. And the gang, those new friends that I hv grow to know along this trip ..... awesome ppl.
Each time Sarawak suprised me with its nature beauty, there's so much more national parks I vow to explore ....... explore it for yourself, and learn to live a life
.
